Marathon

I honestly thought the gunplay, art style, and sound design were all really good. After that, though… not so great.

First off, I’m really not interested in extraction shooters, and this was no exception. I really don’t like going around picking up random items that you have no clue what they do, only to end up filling your inventory. This is especially bad in Marathon due to the unclear UI, which is honestly pretty unpleasant to look at. It makes figuring out what items do 100x harder.

I’ve heard a lot of really good things about the story and lore that Bungie has established around this game. However, the way they deliver that story to the player is also not great, as it forces you to read through a ton of codexes, which I’m personally not a fan of.

Now, back to giving credit where credit is due. I think this game can be really cinematic at times, and when it is, you feel something that you don’t really get with many other games.

Another pro is playing with friends. I played this game with one other friend, and communicating with each other made it so much fun and really tense. Playing solo, on the other hand, was honestly just kind of boring.

Anyways, that’s all I wanted to say about this game.

6/10
